Batch Documentation
A certificate of analysis is issued per lot, not per product. It records what that specific batch was tested for, by which method, against which specification, and what the result was.
What a certificate covers
One lot. The header carries the product, the lot identifier, the format and strength it was filled as, the appearance recorded at release, the analysis date and the retest date. The table below carries one row per test: appearance, identity, purity, largest single impurity and water content, each with its method, its specification and its result.
Matching a certificate to material
The lot identifier is the link. A certificate describes the lot printed on it and no other, so the first check on receipt is that the lot on the container matches the lot on the document. Two lots of the same product carry different certificates and may carry different results.
Requesting documentation for a lot
Quote the product as catalogued and the lot identifier from the container. A request without a lot identifier cannot be matched to a certificate.
Access route being confirmed. The published channel for documentation requests is TO CONFIRM. A searchable lot archive is planned; until real per-lot records exist there is nothing to search, and a search box over an empty index would be worse than none.
Scope
A certificate describes material as tested at the analysis date. It makes no statement about handling after release, and none about suitability for any purpose beyond laboratory research.
